MP008: Baobinga – Love:Motion Podcast

When Baobinga took his first steps into bass music, he was heading down the breaks path. His early productions and mixes however tell a story of someone itching to break away for the confines of a singular genre grouping. Ever intrigued by what new rhythms and sounds could be discovered, Binga began a journey into anything and everything electronic and bassy. Through his musical vector he managed to bring together the vital threads of UK Bass Music linking jungle, dancehall, techno and garage.

Now with a long list of successes, including releases on the imprints Soul Jazz and Trouble & Bass, Baobinga heads up his own label ‘Build’. A recent string of collaborations sees him working with like-minded artists such as Cosmin, TRG, Scratcha, DVA, Hyetal, Mensah and I.D. Mammoth releases such as ‘Tounge Riddim’ and ‘Ride It’ have been attracting huge support from the likes of MJ Cole, Modeselektor, Jackmaster, Sinden and Martyn to name but a few.

With a hectic gig schedule that sees him play the world over, from Russia to America, China to Australia, Baobinga is constantly in demand for his phenomenal skills both in the studio and behind the decks. We are immensely grateful for him droppin this exclusive mix to us in preparation for his gig at Motion for Shit The Bed on 4th December.

MP006: Eddie K - Love:Motion Podcast

Eddie K’s story is what the dance music scene is all about - he's got to where he is today through dedication, time and passion that is unsurpassable. Becoming acquainted with D Style owners D*Minds at an early age, he instantly struck up a good relationship with and it wasn't long before he was DJing regularly at their weekly night RUN.

Soon after came his debut release on their drum and bass sister label, Stereotype, with Eddie making big waves in the scene with tracks such as Planet Terror and My Sound.

Ed has more recently been making big waves in the dubstep scene. His first dubstep release on H.E.N.C.H (Who's the Hardest / The Shivers) had big reactions from all of the top names in the scene, which led up to his next release; his dubstep remix of DJ PrimeCuts ft. MC Dynamite - Warning, released on DSR at the end of 2009. This reached #2 in the Beatport dubstep download chart and remains to be a big talking point of his career.

His In:Motion podcast is a real gem and a true testament to the man’s talents, get downloading and turn the speakers up!

MP005: Pinch - Love:Motion Podcast

Having brought dubstep music to Bristol in early 2004 with his Context and Subloaded nights, Rob Ellis, aka Pinch, worked hard to develop the sound in his home town and the city has flourished as a result of his inputs.

Dubbed by many as “Bristol’s Godfather of Dubstep”, Pinch runs the club giant Subloaded, as well as the successful Tectonic imprint. Starting in 2005 Tectonic quickly grew in reputation to become known as one of the most reliable labels alongside Hyperdub, DMZ and Tempa. Releasing reputed artists such as Loefah, Skream and bringing new signings such as Cyrus and 2562 to the table, Tectonic is also known as the main home for Pinch’s own productions, delivering the widely acclaimed ‘Underwater Dancehall’ LP in late 2007. The LP received huge support from the world press receiving 9/10 in Vice, 5/5 in Mixmag and album of the month in DJ Mag – to name a few.

His reputation has taken him across the globe over the last few years, having played across most of Europe, as well as Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and even China (being the 2nd UK dubstep artist ever to be invited to play in China).

Pinch is regarded by his fans and peers alike as one of the main players in dubstep – always pushing boundaries forward both by means of his original productions and in his cutting edge dubplate led DJ sets.

Pinch has kindly taken time out of his busy schedule to drop this exclusive mix to us. It’s a tasty little warm up for the Subloaded party at Motion on the 29th October, so get on the download and turn the speakers up!

We are seriously chuffed to have this exclusive mix from him in preparation for the Subloaded 6th Birthday party at Motion on the 29th October.

It's on a limited download so get your copy now!

MP004: Mensah - Love:Motion Podcast

Visit Bristol and mention the name Mensah, the chances are that someones going to know the man we’re talking about. Having become involved in the Bristol music scene at an early age, there’s no surprise that he epitomizes the great things associated with the city’s music – positive, progressive and different.

Growing up listening to his Mum’s dub and reggae collection, his first taste of UK underground music was when he started going to the under-18 nights like 'Jungle Book' at the tender age of 11, he witnessed the late and great Steve ‘Hyper’ D MCing for Nicky Blackmarket but it was the garage scene that really kindled Mensah’s first love of electronic music when he heard stalwarts such as Wookie and the Heartless Crew's DJ Fonti at the age of 13.

With releases out on Hench, Get Darker, and Punch Drunk to name but a few, Mensah is rapidly becoming a real driving force in the UK’s booming dub-step scene. Recent mixes for Radio One have set his diary on fire with gig offers coming in from across the globe. This exclusive mix proves just what all the hype is about!
